Why We Are Educators

Another Saturday night, and I’m writing a paper. In reviewing files, I came across these words from another one I wrote in 2008. This goes out to all of my unsung teaching compadres:
“That said, the heroes of heroines in Arizona education who I would currently nominate would be those educators and administrators who are in education because it was their calling; those who are the essence of integrity and who are the consummate professionals; those who know that there will be many days without the recognition, but who continue to do it anyway because they want to be that difference; those who will take a risk if it means what is best for their students; those who are always looking for the next level of personal attainment; those who do not let themselves become stale and jaded by the system; those who always treat their students with respect; and those who truly believe that ALL students can learn and achieve at higher levels. As educators who are seeking to be transformational leaders, we must never give these things up.”

True that, past-self.
